Brooks Saddles - A Timeless British Classic
Posted by andy graham onNot many brands have a history dating back to 1866, let alone bike companies.
The tale starts with John Boultbee Brooks, the companies founder and horse saddle manufacture. When his beloved horse died he tried riding a bike and found the wooden saddle horrible and decided to make it his life mission to develop a comfy seat. Something i think we all have to thank him for.
To this day Brooks still manufacture their saddles in Smethwick on the outskirts of Birmingham. Now producing over 200,000 saddles a year they still pride them-self on producing everything by hand, even using manual machinery.
You'll be hard-pressed to find a touring bike that doesn't have a Brooks saddle fitted and rightly so, theres nothing on the market that can quite compete with their renowned comfort and the ability to mould itself to your shape. Combine that with timeless looks and a build quality to last a lifetime, why would you choose anything different ?
